Since 1982, Te Anau based Southern Lakes Helicopters has been taking Fiordland visitors to the skies. With longstanding roots in the local community, Southern Lakes Helicopters has a dedicated team of local staff and highly experienced pilots who live and breathe the Fiordland lifestyle.

Transitioning from traditional media to a digital leader

For the first thirty-odd years in business, Southern Lakes Helicopters relied on a traditional media and tourism sales approach when it came to promoting their scenic flights to tourists.

So, when we connected with Southern Lakes Helicopters in December 2017, the team was amped and ready to shift gears for the move from traditional marketing methods to best practice digital.

With a healthy number of scenic flight activity providers in Te Anau, Southern Lakes Helicopters needed a stronger online presence in order to stand out in a very competitive space.

We started with a new website launch – best practice meant an open-source, custom-built WordPress CMS that the team could take ownership of right from the start. Their inviting and beautifully designed website draws visitors in and engaged them from first touch through the conversion funnel to book a scenic flight.

In order to put Southern Lakes Helicopters on the map and improve Google visibility, their digital strategy included a focus on consistent and regular content creation on their website.

Every month, we support the creation of new content to share the wider story around scenic flights and Te Anau tourism.

Content goes beyond scenic flight experiences info to topics like Fiordland’s finest waterfalls, Top experiences in Te Anau for under $50 and Best pit stops along Milford Road.

Top keyword searches determined blog topics so that the content created was relevant and resonated with audiences who were active in the online travel research and planning phase.

In doing so, Southern Lakes Helicopters has established itself as an authority and reliable source of helpful information for travelers – while making Google bots happy with fresh, consistent and quality content on a regular basis.
